The Yosemite National Park was first discovered in 1851. It was discovered by the Native Americans. The first groups to enter the Yosemite Valley were the white men who were planning to kill the Native Americans and kick them out of their homeland.

These falls were known to Native Californians for millenia before anyone of European descent came upon them. Thus the exact millenia -- let alone the name -- of the discoverer can never be known.

Joseph Walker most likely saw Yosemite Valley in the late summer and fall of 1833, and thus MIGHT have seen the falls as well -- it tends to be dry at that time of the year.

The first unambiguous, recorded viewing of Yosemite Valley was by William Abrams in 1849 October, but note previous entry.

James Savage led some militia into Yosemite Valley in 1851 March; and thus almost certainly saw Yosemite Falls.
