A workforce of thousands would be required ranging from architects, priests, scribes (who supervised the actual work); craftspeople including masons (the most important), carpenters, ropemakers and smiths; thousands of slaves to do heavy unskilled work of quarrying, moving the stones and putting them in place. Most, if not all of these slaves were naked.
