∙ 14y agoHoward Carter's digs in the Valley of the Kings, particularly his most famous discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb, were financed by Lord Carnarvon, a British aristocrat and amateur Egyptologist. Lord Carnarvon provided the financial support for Carter's excavations in Egypt over many years.

Lord Carnarvon died shortly after the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Lord Caenarvon financed Howard Carters expeditions. Howard acutally died when he was 66 years old.

Howard Carters method of excavation was very cautious and methodical. The excavation of KV 62 took him almost a decade when his contemporaries would have had the tomb emptied out in just a few months.
It was swallowed by a snake shortly after the opening of the tomb.

King Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter, financed by Lord Carnarvon. The tomb had been robbed at least twice in antiquity, once just a short time after the burial, so it was discovered then too (1327 BC!)
