Halley's comet was predicted by Edmund Halley he took the comets of 1531-1607-1682,
and using Newton law of gravitation (who was Halley good friend) and predicted when that comet would return in 1758 and sure enough on Christmas Eve of 1758 it returned.
oh and by the way he did not live to see it and also they called him a nut job that whole year Untill its return
Edmond Halley who discovered the Halley's Comet. He calculate it's orbit in 1716 and it's speed is about 27m per second

It can be seen every 75-76 years. The next predicted perihelion of Halley's Comet will be 28 July 2061.
Comet Halley was last visible to us in 1997. It only appears about every 75 or 76 years. It is predicted to be visible again on the 28th July 2061.
As of May 20, 2014 the next comet that will be coming by the Earth is Comet Faye at the end of May 2014. In June 2014, Comet Brooks 2 will be passing the Earth.
Halley's Comet is a Short Period Comet. It is actually the brightest known short period comet, one of the main reasons for it's popularity. It is visible from Earth once every 75–76 years. The last being in 1986 and the next being in 2061.
Halley's Comet was a periodic comet; it returns to the inner system every 76 years. Hale-Bopp is a very long-period comet; it may have been last seen in 2215 BC. That may have been Hale-Bopp's first approach to the Sun; its orbit was likely altered by close brushes with Jupiter then, and again during its last pass in 1997. Hale-Bopp's next appearance may be in or around the year 4530 AD.

Halley's Comet has never been 10 miles above Earth. It is always millions of miles from us, even when closest to us. It was last visible from Earth in 1986. It will next be visible in 2061.
At Mark Twain's birth in 1835, Halley's Comet was visible in the night sky. Interestingly, Twain passed away in 1910, the year Halley's Comet made its return, which he had predicted. This led to the popular saying, "I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it."
Mark Twain's life and death coincided with Halley's Comet. He was born in 1835, the year Halley's Comet made an appearance, and he died in 1910, shortly after the comet's next scheduled return. Twain famously predicted that he would die when the comet returned.
