Sir Richard Owen invented the word.
Well, actually, he proposed that a new sub-division be created to describe a particular group of reptiles that shared very similar characteristics. And he suggested that the term 'Dinosauria' would be a suitable designation for this new re-classification of certain reptiles.
The word Dinosauria/dinosaur is a composite word, made up from two Greek words, δεινός (deinos, terrible, wonderful) + σαῦÏος (sauros, lizard/reptile). So it means 'Terrible Lizard' or 'Terrible Reptile.'
Richard Owen's proposition that this new term 'Dinosauria' would be an appropriate taxonomic group name can be clearly seen in his article on this matter, published in 1842, although dinosaurs are believed to have been in existence from a time period much earlier than this.
