Who invented goldfish?

Dried fish flakes were used in aquariums by the mid-1800s. Commercial foods became available in the 1890s but one of the first retailers was the Tetra company of Germany, in 1951. The company's founder, Dr. Ulrich Baensch, developed modern methods of preparing dry foods for aquariums.

Goldfish weren't discovered, they're one of the first "domesticated" species of fish. They were line-bred in China in about the 1100s to look how they do today. Prized for their colour and shown off in ponds and large ceramic bowls. Their ancestors were Carp species, most likely the Crucian Carp.
