Later, Herman Hollerith (1860-1929) designed a method to store numbers onto punched cards, which was used to calculate the 1890 census, and the company he founded eventually became IBM Corporation.

Why were tanks invented?

During WW1, the war was heavily focused on trench warfare. The allies nor axis could assault each other without suffering heavy casualties due to entrenched machine guns and infantry divisions. Tanks were invented to provide offensive support along with the troops.
