Sequoyah, a Cherokee silversmith, invented the Cherokee syllabary in the early 19th century. His writing system enabled the Cherokee people to read and write in their own language.
The word "Sequoia" originates from the Latinized name of the Cherokee leader Sequoyah, who created the Cherokee syllabary. It was later used to name the giant sequoia trees found in California.
Sequoyah developed the Cherokee syllabary in about 12 years, from 1809 to 1821. The syllabary consisted of 85 characters representing syllables in the Cherokee language.
Kana, a syllabic writing system used in Japanese, was invented during the Heian period in the 9th century. It was primarily derived from simplified Chinese characters and was developed by the noblewoman Murasaki Shikibu and the monk Kukai. Kana helped to improve literacy and made writing Japanese more accessible to a wider population.
The word "braille" originates from Louis Braille, a Frenchman who invented the tactile writing system now known as Braille. He developed this system in the 19th century to help visually impaired individuals read and write.
The Unicode system was invented to create a universal character encoding standard that could support multiple languages and scripts. This standard allows for the representation of text in different languages and writing systems across various platforms and devices. Unicode helps to ensure consistency and interoperability in text encoding.
Sequoyah Sequoyah
Sequoyah wanted his people to remain free he thought that if his people could communicate with each other by reading and writing, then they could keep their independence of the white people because the Cherokees had no written language.
Because that was the writing system that they invented.
The Sequoya created writing systems. Thanks, -KDG
He invented the Cherokee syllabary, a writing system still used today. Now all Apple computers come with Cherokee installed and there's a Cherokee-language Google that uses Sequoyah's syllabary.

There are many different Native American tribes with their own languages. Sequoia devised a system for writing the Cherokee language; but Navaho, Comanche, and other tribal languages would have nothing to do with the Cherokee system.

The form of writing used by the Sumerians is called cuneiform.
"victorious people" is not in Cherokee, and this section of the site is about the English language. Cherokee was not a written language until the early 19th century, when a special set of characters (not the English alphabet) was invented for writing it.
