In 1892, F W Rushbrooke established Halfords due to his brother G. (Gordon)Rushbrooke's original idea for the pump mechanism. Origionally designed when cleaning an exhaust pipe and realised the air pressure could be forced along a cylinder into a confined space or area, such as a bicyle tyre. The mechanism was portable and unique and proved to be revelutionary to the Halfords company years later.

You can pump it with a bicycle pump with the needle.
A Bicycle Pump is used to pump the tyres on Bikes it is normally a simple hand operated device which pushes air through a tube atached to a nozel which is screwed to the Valve on a Bicycle inatube the air is then forced into the Bicycle Tire.
Bicycle pumps are most commonly found and sold at a bicycle store. One may also find a bicycle pump at a local retailer such as Walmart or Target, or online at Amazon.

it was invented by the example of the bicycle.
the bike was invented in the 1860s
John Richard Dedicoat is credited with invented the bicycle bell in 1877. Bicycle bells are usually put on the handlebars and are thumb activated.
There's no set "recipe" for the sizeof the parts of a bicycle pump, other than that they have to fit together. A floor pump might have a 2" piston while a road bicycle hand pump might be 3/4" or smaller.
The advantages of using an electric bicycle pump over a traditional manual pump include faster inflation, less physical effort required, and the ability to easily adjust the pressure accurately.
The bicycle was invented using already existing materials, so no new material was developed for the bicycle.
