Evolution was not discovered. It started as an explanation by Charles Darwin, in 1838, to explain the differences between animals on the mainland with animals he encountered on islands that were VERY similar with their mainland cousins but had modified traits and characteristics to allow them to survive in environments that their mainland cousins could not. Ex. A hummingbird on an island very similar to one on the nearby continent but with a very long curved beak to reach nectar in the bottom of a long necked flower that only grew on that island. Their short beaked cousins would have never reached the nectar.

Charles Darwin admitted that he didn't know what mechanism existed that permitted these changes or govened their development. However, with the discovery of DNA, that mechanism was indeed discovered.

The theory of evolution was first proposed by Charles Darwin & Alfred Russel Wallace.

More information: Just like Newton, Darwin "stood on the shoulders of giants." We have been collecting information for thousands of years that lead up to Darwin's intuitive leap. In ancient Greece, Aristotle was cataloging various creatures and putting them into categories with other creatures he considered similar (or related.) This was developed over the years until Linnaeus created the system of taxonomy that has not been changed much since. We still use this basic system in Biology today. Mendel was cross breeding his famous peas and learning something that farmers and herders had known for generations, if you breed two different lines together the offspring will inherit some characteristics of each parent. We have used this knowledge to create better foods (corn, bananas) and better animals (cows, dog breeds), or at least ones better suited to our purposes. Darwin knew all these things when he was looking at the Galapagos finches and this old information fused with his experiences and he realised, nature has been cross-breeding itself for ages and creating animals that are better and better suited to their niches, aka evolving! This does not diminish his genius in any way, merely helps explain it. ;)

Many people attribute the Theory of Evolution (TOE) to Charles Darwin. Darwin, however, should more accurately be credited with the Theory of Natural Selection. Darwin did indeed lay the groundwork for those who followed after him, however, he is not the origin of TOE. Darwin's contemporary Alfred Russel Wallace could just as easily be given credit for TOE. This too, however, would be incorrect. It was not until the work of Gregor Mendel in the early 20th century did TOE gain strong scientific support.

The early Greek philosopher Anaximand (7th c. BCE) was one of the first people to write about the subject. However, Charles Darwin was the one who explained the mechanism that drives evolution.

Charles Darwin developed the theory from his studies of the wildlife on the Galapagos Islands.

But Alfred Russel Wallace corresponded with Darwin, and the concept of natural selection was that of Wallace's. As Darwin acknowledges in his writing.

Charles Darwin discovered evolution

Who discovered sun?

In evolution, the sun was discovered by the first of the human evolutionary stages to develop eyes, who was intelligent enough to recognize light and objects. This man is not known. Probably an ape man. In creationism, the sun was discovered by Adam, the first man. If you are asking who discovered that the sun was the center of the solar system, then ask it. If you are asking who discovered the sun was round, ask it. Be more specific.

Who discovered the evolution of man?

Charles Darwin & Alfred Russel Wallace first proposed natural selection and evolution. The actual process of modifying plants and anilmals had been known for centuries as it is used by farmers to create new breeds of animals and crops.

Who came up with theory of evolution?

Although we may not be able to say who first defined evolution as the means by which new species arise, we do know that early pioneers of evolution theories include Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet, Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire and Lamarck. Charles Darwin (1809-1892) was not the first to study evolution, but he was the first to recognise the role of natural selection in evolution. He defined the process by which evolution occurs as being natural selection, in his Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.
