Colonel Sebastian Moran is an enemy of Sherlock Holmes. He first appeared in the short story "The Adventure of the Empty House."
He is a man.A DANGEROUS MAN.

It looks quite like that of the Royal Marines. If it is, the only link I can see is that Sebastian Moran (Vinny Jones) was an ex Royal Marine. A trophy?

Sherlock Holmes' enemy, if Enemy refers to a person, was always the villain of the story. Some of his more famous enemies include Charles Augustus Milverton the blackmailer (CHAS), Rodger Baskerville Jr. a.k.a. Jack Stapleton/Mr. Vandeleur the murderer (HOUN), Culverton Smith the poisoner (DYIN), Colonel Sebastian Moran the assassin and second in command of Professor James Moriarty [FINA (alluded to), EMPT, VALL (mentioned)], and the crimelord Prof. Moriarty himself [FINA, EMPT (mentioned), VALL (mentioned)]

Von Herder, the blind German mechanic
Professor James Moriarty. a retired mathematics professor, Holmes refers to him as "the Napoleon of crime." In the case, "The Final Problem" found in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, Holmes takes on this criminal mastermind in a battle of wits and physical prowess that ultimately ends in the apparent death of both in Reichenbach Falls.
In "The Adventure of the Empty House" (in the collection "The Return of Sherlock Holmes") Sherlock Holmes explains to Watson what happened at the Reichenbach Falls, where he and Professor Moriarty supposedly died. I recommend reading the story (it's on the Internet if you can't get to your public library) but, to rush over it : Mr. Holmes used a technique of Japanese martial arts he called baritsu to overpower the Professor. Moriarty went over the falls. Holmes managed to elude Moriarty's number two man, Col. Moran, and flee. He told Watson that he travelled to Lhasa (sp?) [I believe its in modern Nepal], then spent time in France doing chemical research before returning to England to put away Col. Moran.
