Luke is mentioned in Colossians 4:14 as the beloved physician. In 2 Timothy 4:11, Paul is reported as saying, "Luke is with me."
However, a clear majority of scholars are reported as believing that Paul did not write Colossians, while about 90 percent believe that Paul did not write 2 Timothy. Fr. Raymond E. Brown, a member of the Vatican's Roman Pontifical Biblical Commission, has expressed his belief that, of the thirteen epistles which say that they were written by Paul, critical scholars have reached a near consensus that only seven are Paul's: 1 Thessalonians, Galatians, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Philippians, Philemon and Romans.
On the scholarly view, the Epistles that mentioned Luke were not really written by Paul. Paul did not know anyone called Luke, and we can not say whether Luke was a physician, or even whether there was a person called Luke in the early Church.

∙ 13y agoLuke was a medical doctor and friend of Paul, who accompanied him on his missionary journeys. Tradition holds that Luke was born in Antioch, and the style of the Greek in which he writes suggests that he was a Greek rather than a Jew. He never met Jesus as far as we know.
He was commissioned by his patron Theophilus to search out and write a systematic, reliable and detailed account of the life of Jesus and the early Church. By research and interview, Luke produced his Gospel bearing his name, and also the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, which follows the Gospels in the New Testament. Both books are addressed to Theophilus. However, whhether 'Theophilus' himself was a real person is debateable, as the name comes from 'Theos' and 'philos' meaning 'God-lover', and so some scholars believe luke was simply addressing his books to anyone who loves God and wishes to learn more about Jesus.
