Medusa was one of the bad guys of course. She and Percy's father were in a Myth to have had Sexual Intercourse in the temple of Athena. In return, Athena cursed Medusa to look like a monster. That is why she takes a liking to Percy and a more hateful feeling to Annabeth. :) Hope that helps! Oh and when she looks at people with her eyes they get turned into stone, which happened to Grover's Uncle.
