I would imagine there would be much debate on that issue depending on who you talk to, and the specialty particular to the physician. However, both are four year programs. However, I believe the internship and residency requirements are much more intense for physicians (can be three to eight years depending on the specialty), where one year residency options are available for the optometrist wishing to pursue advanced clinical competency.
