Well to answer your question you have to consider all his abilities. As you know he is a dear friend of Charles and is the strongest X - men and is the only one known to be stronger than Gean who is known as the strongest mutant making wolverine the strongest mutant alive not including magneto because they yet have to be compared.
Wolverine can regenerate from critical injuries in an amazingly short amount of he also has Amagnesium in his bones so his bones cant be broken. Also when he goes berserk he is unstoppable.

With the adamantium claws he is almost unstoppable, the ability to heal his wounds make him almost invincible, and his unique fighting techniques make him just as good as any Kung Fu warrior. The adamantium claws that are part of Wolverines body are proof from how strong he is, every time he goes to activate his claws they cut through his flesh. Imagine that! There is how strong Wolverine is. 99% of the time, he kicks his enemy's butt!

- And if his head is cut from his body and taken quite far away from his foreseeable body
