Walter Morrison and Warren Franscioni invented a version of the first plastic frisbee in 1948.
Morrison continued to work on a basic plastic model for the modern frisbee and called it Pluto Platter. He received design patent 183,626 for a flying toy on September 30, 1958.
In 1967, an Amherst (Mass.) College student named Jared Kass was the first to begin playing organized frisbee games with some of his fellow students. In the summer of 1968, he teaches 13-year-old Joel Silver about the game of frisbee at summer school, and Joel introduces it to Columbia High School in New Jersey that fall. This school's Student Council played a huge role in promoting this new fad, and the first official Frisbee game is played in 1970. Then the first official set of documented rules was written by Joel Silver, with help from Buzzy Hellring and Jonny Hines.
