Anubis.

above is a very shallow understanding.

ancient Egypt was a monotheistic philosophically based civilization that writing and representations were eventually interpreted and presented by outsiders (and rulers of the day) as separate deities and forces. the main religious orientation changed then just as much as it has changed since the 11 century til now. EGYPTOLOGISTS AND TRANSLATORS HAVE DONE THIS CIVILIZATION A GREAT INJUSTICE...THAT IS STILL SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD OF FORMAL EDUCATION....EXCUSE MY FRENCH

Egyptian religion changed many times over several thousand years of its history, but in its main form it was trinitarian with Osiris, Horus and Isis forming a two brothers one sister god complex.

Osiris is basically the god of summer and plenty, Horus the god of winter and dearth, while Isis is the female principle which connects the two.

The stories of their exact relationship are many and various.

But it is always worth remembering that Egypt also had its period of monotheism, when the rogue Pharaoh Akhenaten made the worship of the visible sun - Atun - the transcendent sole god in the pantheon.

Before and after Akhenaten the sun was also worshipped as a transcendent god - but usually as the abstract Ra, rather than Akhenaten's incarnate Atun.

It depends where you lived. In Thebes, the chief god was Amun/Amon. In Akhetaten/Akhetaton, the chief god was Aten/Aton. For Kom Ombo, it was Set. Other gods significant to some cities/nomes included Ra/Re, Neith, Khonsu, and Atum.

The ancient Egyptians had some 130 gods, including a god of geese and a god of frogs. For a complete list, check the site of Wikipedia.org for '" List_of_Egyptian_deities". Ra, Osiris and Isis were three of the most important, but the list of the 'most worshipped' runs to about fifteen.
