Dove soap was created in in 1957 by the Unilever company, and included stearic acid to offset the drying effects of other soaps on the market at the time. Beginning in the 1960s, Unilever began making advertisements for Dove soap based on the testimonials of female consumers, a marketing technique which they have continued to use to the present day.
