they could sent messages faster so they can do more things. the military back then mostly used it and it was used in subs alot.
Well, there was the mail system. They also had men who were trained to quickly carry messages on horseback. I forget exactly what they were called though. Hope that helps. In America there was the Pony Express. (YeeHaw)
