No. A LPN is a licensed practical nurse. To work as a surgical tech, you must complete a specific training program for that job. It is usually a 15-18 month course.
LPN!
A surgeon is a medical doctor who specializes in surgical procedures. A surgical technician is one who assists the surgeon, preparing and laying out the surgical instruments needed for the surgery.
There are two types of nurses RN's (registered nurses) and LPN's/LVN's (licensed pracitcal nurses). RN's usually start out around 24.50 dollars an hour while LPNs start out aroung 17.00 dollars. A surgical tech is like a patient care tech but they specialize in the surgical area by setting up sterile feilds assisting the DR by handing him/her sterile equip etc. Starting out they make around 13.00 an hour. This is in New Mexico and remember this is base pay for a novice with little to minimal experience.
Vo-Tech
An RN makes more money than an LPN.
Generally, an LPN program is one-year. It is offered by tech schools and community colleges. An RN program is either two years (Associate degree), which is offered by a tech school or community college, or a four-year BSN program offered by a university. The longer the program, the more in-depth it is and the more responsibility the graduate is able to assume. LPN do not do invasive procedures like draw blood and start IVs, for example. This site offers a comparison of LPN v. ADRN: http://www.mstc.edu/pdf/ComparisonLPNandRNroles.pdf Salaries for an ADRN are $1500-$2000 more per month, depending on the job, the institution and the location. BSNs are often in supervisory roles and earn more still.
