Bill Haley & His Comets

In 1953, the late James E. Myers, a low-key Philadelphia musician, music publisher and movie extra co-wrote "Rock Around the Clock" with the late Max Freedman, a Philadelphia postal worker turned songwriter. The song was recorded by Bill Haley & His Comets in 1954 and forever changed the landscape of American popular culture. It stalled on the charts, then blasted to No.1 in 1955 after it was showcased as the theme for the teens-gone-wild movie "Blackboard Jungle.
