T.H. Thompson and John Watson use the quote, but it's origination comes from a man known as Philo of Alexandria, a Jewish philosopher who was born in Alexandria, Egypt and lived 20 BC to 50 AD (also known as Philo Judeaus).
Other sources say...
This is often misattributed to Plato and Philo, but is far more recent than that. Maybe there was something similar. For example:
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. - John Watson (aka Ian MacLaren)
"Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle" ― J.M. BarrieRelated Questions

Where did most of the fighting in the War of 1812 take place?

The place that had most fighting was the Canada but what battle
it was the battle of lundys lane why well because in that early
morning there was a mist at lundys lane graveyard where the battle
took place. Why was it the battle with most fighting because both
sides could not see in front of them so they would attack anyone
near them so they would kill their own men. At the end of the
battle the americains thought they won and the British thought they
had won so no one knows who won the battle.
