the ancient egyptians built them to burry their kings in the early times. they stopped using them later on because they were being robbed. they then started using under ground tombs so it was harder to rob.

The pyramids were built by workmen who were employed by the pharaoh for a few months a year to make the pharaoh's pyramid tomb. The workforce was made up partly of farm labourers in the off season. There was nothing to do on farms in the off season, so the farmers worked on pharaoh's monuments for extra money.
