Doroteo Arango, alias Francisco "Pancho" Villa, was born in 1877 (1879 according to some sources) in San Juan del Rio, State of Durango, Mexico. During his lifetime, he was a ruthless killer (killing his first man at age sixteen), a notorious bandit (including cattle rustling and bank robbery), a revolutionary (a general commanding a division in the resistance against the 1913-14 Victoriano Huerta Dictatorship), and despite his bloodthirsty nature, an enduring hero to the poor people of Mexico. In their minds, Villa was afraid of no one, not the Mexican government or the gringos from the United States. He was their one true friend and avenger for decades of Yankee oppression.

Another General killed Zapata and Villa fled to Northern Mexico with his army. He smuggled stolen property and untaxed food, alcohol, and drugs from Mexico, and bought guns in the United States to smuggle into Mexico. Something caused him to attack the town of Columbus, New Mexico. That was the first attack on American soil since The War of 1812. President Woodrow Wilson nationalized the national guard and sent it to fight under General Pershing where it became the American Army. That army fought a number of battles with Villa's army and reduced it to an extremely small group of men but never captured or killed Poncho Villa. When World War 1 broke out, President Wilson decided Poncho Villa was no longer a threat to the United States and sent that army from Mexico to Europe. After World War 1, The United States threatened to send another army into northern Mexico. General Obregon then convinced Villa's solders to come over to his side. They remembered fighting los yanquis (Yankees) and Villa was left without an army. Later Villa was assassinated.
