The way Karana got off Island of the Blue Dolphin's when the white Men came back again and she painted her face in blue clay to show that she wasn't a married woman then the white men came to her house and started to speak but she couldn't understand them so they made hand gestures that somehow communicated that Karana will go on the ship with the white men.
Karana ate seafood such as mussels, clams, and abalones, as well as fish and roots she gathered or hunted on the island. She also kept a wild dog as a companion and shared some of her catch with him.

The resolution of "Island of the Blue Dolphins" sees Karana rescued after years of isolation on the island. She is finally able to leave and start a new life after learning valuable lessons about survival, resilience, and the importance of family and community.
Karana in "Island of the Blue Dolphins" would gather sea urchin spines and attach them to a long stick to use as a tool for scraping scallops off rocks. This method allowed her to collect scallops for food.
Karana waits for a few starfish to feed on the abalones because she believes it is a sign that the abalones are safe to eat. Starfish are known to be sensitive to toxins in the water, so if they are feeding on the abalones without any ill effects, it indicates that the abalones are likely not contaminated or poisonous.
Karana liked to eat red abalones the best. She found them to be the most delicious and plentiful on the island.
It'd probably be the Dolphins. Whales, we don't know about, since their size makes them a lot harder to study. They MIGHT be more similar in mind, despite being more different in body.

The wild dogs were running through the huts in Island of the Blue Dolphins because they were hunting for food and scavenging for anything they could find. The abandoned village provided an opportunity for them to search for scraps or small animals to eat.
With rare exceptions, Dolphins eat fish and squid. Killer whales will eat seals and turtles. Blue whales eat plankton and brill. But one thing is for sure -- it is all seafood.
Yes dolphins eat a lot.
No dolphins cannot eat books.
Dolphins normally eat fish and squid.
Fish eat seaweed. Dolphins eat fish. No seaweed, no fish, no dolphins.
