It could be Run-DMC, when they collaborated with Aerosmith on their 1975 hit "Walk this Way", making a new cover of it in 1986. I know that that brought Hip-Hop/Rap out into the mainstream public, and the genres became more accepted because an old rock band like Aerosmith were involved. I could be wrong, though. None really, it's just underground is less heard of (like they don't play it on the radio) Underground music is better to me, however it's not really known that well like mainstream.
