Red is a African-American man who is serving a 50 year sentence for murder at Shawshank prison. During his time in prison he meets Andy, a man wrongful convicted of killing his wife and her lover. Together they become friends and spend 19 years with each other in Shawshank prison. Red was released after 40 years with parole.

Red is played by Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption.
