Planets aren't a natural feature of the universe, they are God's sign that he is all powerful and mighty.

Another view is that planets are a natural feature of the universe. The planets of our solar system were created about 5 billion years ago by the accumulation of mass by gravity.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn have been known for thousands of years, so one can't say that a person discovered them.

Uranus was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel.

Neptune was discovered in 1846 by Urbain Le Verrier, John Couch Adams and Johann Galle independently.

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and of course Earth were known to the ancients. Uranus was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel, and Neptune was discovered in 1846 in a sort of team effort: the actual observation was made by Johann Galle near the spot predicted by Urbain Le Verrier.

William Herschel was the first person to discover Uranus and that was the first planet to be "discovered". Several were known before that, but they were obvious to ancient peoples.
