It depends on how you define 'outer space':-
Russian Yuri Gagarin, on 12 April 1961, became the first man to travel into space in Vostok 1 for a 108 minute orbital flight.
American Alan Shepard was the second person in space on May 5th 1961.
John Glenn was the first American to go into orbit round the earth - on Feb 20th 1962.
Glenn is still alive (born in 1921) but Shepard died of leukaemia in 1998, and Gagarin was killed in an aircraft crash in 1968.
However, no one has travelled further than the moon (around 240,000 miles distant) so if you define outer space as beyond the earth's atomosphere then the above space travellers were the first. If you define outer space as being beyond our solar system, then no one has actually travelled out that far, although the unmanned voyager missions are now leaving the solar system and moving towards interstellar space.
The first human ever in space was Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (Russian: ЮÌрий ÐлекÑеÌевич ГагаÌрин, 9 March 1934 - 27 March 1968) was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human being to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on April 12, 1961.
Yugi Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut, was the first person in space.

Coca-Cola was the first soft drink to be consumed in outer space.
America's first satellite launched into outer space was called the Explorer 1, and was launched in 1958.
