Mount Everest is the "highest mountain in the world", the terrestrial location with the highest elevation above sea level : 29,029 feet (8848 m). It is located in the Himalayan mountain range, on the border between Nepal and Tibet in Asia. It has the native names Sagarmāthā (Nepal), Chomolungma (Tibet) and Zhumulangma (China) and the first recorded ascent to its summit was by Sir Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953.
Obviously how quickly you can ascend Mt Everest depends on many factors - your fitness level, how quickly you can acclimatise, the unpredictable weather... One of the fastest ascents was just under 11hours, made by a local Sherpa. It is suggested that of the 7 weeks that are spent on the mountain in organised group trekking packages, only about 21 days are actually spent climbing.
Mount Everest would never melt away because under the snow and ice there is rock.
