At least three members of the group provided the lead voice on recordings in 1965. David Ruffin sang the lead vocals on"It's Growing" "My Baby" and "Since I Lost My Baby". Paul Williams sang the lead on "Don't Look Back" and Eddie Kendricks on "You've Got to Earn It".

The "Classic 5" known Temptations are Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendrick, Paul Williams and David Ruffin. Dennis Edwards became lead singer only after Eddie Kendrick's departure.
