Best Answer

On Sept. 6, 1985, Boston traded popular forward Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell and a first-round draft pick to the San Diego Clippers for Walton. Despite previous injury problems, the 6'11" former UCLA star proved to be a solid backup to forward Kevin McHale and center Robert Parish. The Celtics won the 1986 NBA Championship and Walton received the NBA Sixth Man Award, making him the first person ever to have won it and be named NBA Finals MVP and regular-season MVP. He won the two MVP awards in the 1970s as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers.
