∙ 10y agoFirst of all there were two Kings named Herod. I do not entirely understand the angle of Herod"s Three sons. The Magi ( who are traditionally numbered three- but The Bible does not back this up, in fact they are not referred to as (Kings) in the Bible, but merely Wise Men of the East. The Three Wise men are traditionally named Gaspar, or Casper ( he of Ghost fame), Melchior ( often pronounced Mell-Choir which suggests musical talent), and Balthazar or Balshazzar.) Supposedly one of the trio was Black African, this again, being legend. Few aspects of the New Testament are as shrouded in half-truth and legend as the lengthy voyage of the Wise Men. It has inspired a number of good hymns- The March of the Kings had a sheet-music cover with three men in tandem, on Camelback, riding on the China Wall, at dusk! very appropriate for Kings out of the Orient! so it goes.

∙ 9y agoKing Herod had many sons but when he died in 4 BCE, his kingdom was made into a Tetrarchy. He was succeeded by Herod Antipas, Philip and Archelaus.
