The characters in "And Then There Were None" died in various ways, such as poisoning, drowning, and gunshot wounds. Each character's death was orchestrated as part of a mystery plot where they were killed off one by one on the isolated island where they were stranded.

The best detective story written yet, depicting the perfect crime! It's true that she didn't play quite fair, withholding some vital piece of information.

It's about the need to punish those responsible - either directly or indirectly - for the death of (usually innocent) people, although they cannot be sentenced in a court of law. Several people are invited to holiday on a remote island - completely cut off the mainland during the following storm - but their rich and mysterious host is nowhere to be seen. Instead, they play (as instructed) a record: a man's voice lists the guests' and the servants' crimes and sentence - DEATH for all the 10 people on the island. And they begin to die off (the lesser crime is punished first, more quickly and less painfully, whereas those considered more morally corrupt and more guilty are killed last, after a considerable amount of anguish and mental torture). Some time later, authorities (as instructed in a letter) come to the island and discover ten victims. Who killed them?

The punishment of unknown or ignored murders - the moral theme.

The "closed up and confined space" mystery by excellence. Who killed all the 10 people on a dessert island, knowing that it was impossible for any outsider to have come and left the isle prior to the discovery of the murders?

Anthony James Marston died from poison in his drink. Mrs. Ethel Rogers died from an overdose of choloral hydrate (someone else gave her to much it wasn't suicide). General John Gordon MacArthur gets his head crushed. Thomas Rogers got an axe to the head. Emily Caroline Brent was injected with potassium cyanide. The judge (Wargrave) fakes his death but in the end shoots himself in the head.Dr. Edward George Armstrong gets pushed into the ocean and drowns. William Blore's head is crushed by a clock. Philip Lombard is shot. And Vera Claythorne hangs herself.
