Beserks-not a specific warrior, but the definition of a Beserk is: In old-Norse sagas, they were warriors who dressed themselves in bear skins, to make use of the fear common people had for wild animals. They whipped themselves up to a sort of battle frenzy, biting their shields and howling like animals. They were ferocious fighters and seemingly insensitive to pain while this madness lasted; berserks made formidable enemies. In their rage they even attacked the boulders and trees of the forest; it was not uncommon that they killed their own people. I know it is a long definition, but it is correct.

Viking is a name given to some people of Scandinavian and Norse descent who raided and colonized areas of Western Europe from the eighth to the eleventh centuries. All Vikings are Scandinavian and Norse. Not all Norse and Scandinavians are Vikings.

The word "Viking" comes from the old Norse suffix "-vik" meaning port or harbor combined with the other suffix "-ing". Therefore the word Viking means of the harbor, where the Vikings primarily lived.

Vikings came from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark and settled mostly in Ireland, England, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, and North America. In fact, Vikings were the first Europeans to settle on North America. The city of Dublin was founded by Vikings.

Contrary to popular belief, they did not wear horned helmets. This is believed to have come from the victims of Vikings, depicting them as "devil men."

Their war ships, the drakker or dragon ship, were built with such a shallow draft that they were able to sail upriver. This allowed them to attack the center of Ireland, France, and England and allowed them to sail up river into the Baltic region and into Russia and down to the Middle East.

The Vikings also traveled the medditerainan to Greece, Italy, Turkey and Egypt.

A viking was a trader/raider, usually the second son of a king or chieftain who would go out to make a name for himself. It was dangerous, but profitable. They would set out with a ship (usually donated by his father) and warriors (usually friends of him or the family), with trade goods (again, donated by the father). They would then go about to various outposts and cities and trade. If they came across an easy target, such as a village or a Christian monastery (since they had a lot of gold), they would ransack the place, steel whatever wasn't nailed down, then go and trade those items.
If it wasn't for the viking longship's design, the vikings would have been no where near as fierce as they were. It was flat-bottomed, so it could easily travel in very shallow water. Villages that thought they were safe, would find a viking dragon prowed long ship going up the river towards them, the vikings jumping over board, and able to beach the ship by hand. A viking raid could happen easily within an hour, with no warning, on a village that was for all intents and purposes, inland.

Also, the vikings did not originate from any one country. Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and many others had Vikings. Again, the Viking was not, i repeat, NOT the normal lifestyle for the general population. Most of the people during the Viking age were farmers.
