The Confederates. It was April 1861.
Confederates
nobody actually got killed but some soldiers got injured most by the union and some to confederates but they didnt die and it was attacked by confederates but nobody actually won
There actually never was an actual battle at Ft. Sumter. After the secession of the confederate states, most of the forts in the South had relinquished their power to the Confederacy, but Fort Sumter was among the two that didn't. And since its supplies were running out against a besieging South Carolinian army, Lincoln had a problem of how to deal with the situation. * Lincoln wisely chose to send supplies to the fort, and he told the South Carolinian governor that the ship to the fort only held provisions, not reinforcements. * However, to the South, provisions were reinforcements, and on April 12, 1861, cannons were fired onto the fort; after 34 hours of non-lethal firing, the fort surrendered.
'''The French won the battle of Fort Bull''' '''YAH for them but bad for the other side''' ''':)'''

Fort Sumter surrendered. The Confederates won.
The South won the battle because they were obviously better. They needed to get out of the Union and the succeded in seceding.
The South won - first shots of the war.
The Battle of Fort Sumter, even though only 10 casualitys it was the battle that started the civil war. Fort Sumter is located in South Carolina. (props to my 8th grade socials studies teacher mrs. mills)Another view:The Battle of Gettysburg, It was the turning point in the civil war because after that battle the union took the upper hand.
Apart from the Fort Sumter bombardment and a few skirmishes in Western Virginia, the first battle proper was First Bull Run (Manassas), July 1861, won by the Confederates. But neither army had been anywhere near ready for combat - which was the chief lesson of the battle.
The first battle of the American Civil War was the Battle of Fort Sumter in 1861. With dwindling food supplies and no chance of winning against the Confederates, Fort Sumter was surrendered. It marked a turning point in the war, as Americans no longer thought the Civil War would either be quick or easily won.
The confederates won the first battle and the fort, no one was killed on the confederate side and the commander of the fort was wounded along with 19 of his troops, 9 died and 105 were taken prisoners. This began the war.
