Who denied Jesus death?

The apostle Peter was the only one of the disciples who affirmed faith in Jesus as the Christ (Mark 8:29), yet later he denied him three times (Mark 14:66-72). Superficially, these are unrelated events, yet the reader of Mark's Gospel finds a great sense of betrayal in Peter's denials. The reason for this is that this, the first New Testament gospel to be written, is based around a parallel structure that uses context and association to create emphasis and develop themes that would otherwise be hidden. In the following table, we see that Peter affirmed Jesus in event T, and denies Jesus three times in event T'. Remembering Jesus' warning in event T, "Whosoever shall be ashamed of me: of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed," Peter then wept (event U').

These events are copied in the later gospels but, because those gospels no longer have the parallel structure of Mark, the denials arguably do not have the impact of the original.

Jesus himself, in my opinion, denied his own death on the cross in Luke 24:39.

• Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have." {Luke 24:39]

If you give two people the same ingredients to prepare a dish - the outcome will not taste the same. Luke 24:39 will therefore be interpreted differently by those whose salvation hangs on the belief that Jesus died on the cross for their sins.

However, Luke 24:39 was said by Jesus after the 'crucifixion'.

My own interpretation of Luke 24:39 from The Bible is: Jesus was saying - look at my hands there are no signs of the nail and if the crucified person died on the cross he would have reappeared as a ghost - as you can see I am not a ghost but my physical self - touch me and see - no one can touch a ghost!
