∙ 13y agoThere was a lot of debate among those who wrote the bill of rights, that they had failed to provide for a guarantee for jury trials in civil cases; see Federalist Papers 80-83. Because of this the 7th amendment guaranteeing jury trials in all civil cases was passed (Please note the US Supreme Court has since ruled that it is not guaranteed, despite the wording of the constitution).

The Bill of Rights is the name of the first ten amendments found in the United States United States Constitution. The seventh reads: In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.
