The pyramids are believed to be started by Pharaoh Djoser. Djoser wanted to be able to continue to rule in the underworld when he died. So he instructed the famed architect Imhotep to construct a gigantic stairway to ascend to the heavens to rule. Over the ages pharaohs continued wanting larger and more detailed designs of the pyramid to show off as their tomb and to always rule and always be remembered.
