Why are bumble bees called bumble bees?

The original name is supposed to have been "humble bees" so it would appear to have been a derivation or abstraction of that. As most Harry Potter fans will know an early name for these bees was Dumbledore, so the "umble" part of the name seems to have been a consistent feature. I'm afraid that's all I can offer in way of explanation.

Do people keeep bumble bees like they keep honey bees?

We can't keep bumble bees in the same way we keep honey bees. There are several reasons for this:Bumble bees tend to be either solitary or live in very small colonies, compared to the honey bee hive of around 60,000 bees in the summer.Honey bees make more honey than they need, and this is what we collect. Bumble bees do make honey, but only in very small amounts. At the most you would collect about a tablespoonful of honey from a bumble bee nest.Bumble bees won't live in hives.A honey bee colony lives through the winter (they don't hibernate), so you still have the colony in spring. At the end of summer newly-mated bumble bee queens fly off to find somewhere to hibernate through the winter; all other bumble bees die as the cold weather comes.WRONG. The person who gave this answer has no idea what they are talking about. Bumble bees are commonly kept as pollinators, especially for indoor greenhouse crops like tomatoes. Google it.

What is the difference between honeybees and bumblebees?

Body shape is different: a honey bee's body is similar to that of a wasp, while the bumble bee has a round body. The bumble bee is also known for it's hairy or fuzzy appearance. Honey bees, although having a fine hairs appear much smoother. Bumble bees are also usually black and yellow in colour, honey bees more shades of brown. Bumble bees are similar to honey bees in that a hive will consist of a queen, female worker bees, and male drones, who are responsible for mating with the queen. They do produce honey, but in very small amounts, so they are not used for commercial honey production. Another similarity is that only the females possess stingers. Bumble bees tend to live in fairly small nests, which are usually in the ground. For this reason, they do not swarm like honey bees. Bumble bees can thrive in colder climates than most honey bees because they can regulate their body temperature and they have furry bodies. With many bumble bee varieties, only the queen will survive over the winter, and she hibernates in her nest. Honey bees do not hibernate, and although the drones are evicted from the hive at the end of summer and die, the queen and workers over-winter in the hive, taking the opportunity to forage whenever the air temperature is high enough.
