Chinchillas are very slow breeding gestation takes 111days and weaning a further 4 months. This means you are paying for around 8 months worth of the breeders' time, food and electric. Compare this to say a dog which has a gestation of 60-65 days and weaned around 6 weeks and off to new homes at 8 weeks. The whole process takes around 4 months; half the time of a chinchilla! Additionaly, the litter size is small with usually only 1 or 2 kits (rarley 3) being born. A dog litter is much larger, 5-10 puppies in a Labrador litter for example. Chinchillas are very long lived most people quote around 10-20 years but some have lived until around 30. These are similar to dog life spans. So really you are paying for a companion who will be with you a long time. Incidently the care costs for a chinchilla in terms of food, hay and treats are much less than those of a dog. They are also less likely to need vetanary treatments like vaccinations.
Except for the initial cost of obtaining a ferret and supplies, as long as ferrets are properly taken care of there not that much of an expense. For example with proper care and feeding of ferrets, they are less prone to any illnesses for disease. I have a 9 year old albino ferret, Abby she weighs about 1 lb. and I've only had to take her to the veterinarian for a check up one time. I don't have the cost of a cage, because I refuse to cage my ferrets. If you understand their behavoirs they can be kept healthy. A lot of people don't take the time to learn about ferrets, which leads to improper care and as a result more prone to disease and illness.
But I do stress to any potential new ferrets owners of what they could cost if they are sick or ill. Veterinarian bills are expensive and many people have let ferrets suffer because they are unable to afford vet bills. Ferrets are more prone to get into dangerous situations around the house if the owner doesn't ferret proof or pay attention to them. I read many stories about injured ferrets and the owner letting them suffer because they could not afford vet bills.
they are so expensive because of their fur and because they are endangered
their fur people make coats out of and they are very soft me personally im against the killing of chinchillas for their fur they are one of the sweetest rodents they wont bite you so i don't see why they are killed but that's why they are so expensive because people kill them for their fur
Reputable ferret breeders (e.g. Marshall Farms) need to make a profit. Each ferret that they sell needs to be raised to an age where it can be sold, Ferrets need to be neutered and inoculated to avoid health problems. The retailer also needs to make a profit. There is a lot of potential for loss of profit so the price tends to be high but not any more so than for other pets. You might drop $100 on a ferret but a pure-bred dog with papers could cost $1000.
If you don't have the money but you still want a ferret, you might want to look at the want ads or bulletin boards (Craigslist) and find a bargain. There are lots of ferrets listed as 'free to a good home'...they are sort of like kids--they look cute until you actually get one.
chinchillas usually cost around 100 to 300 dollars. It depends on how much the owners would like to sell for.
Not all of them are. It depends upon where you go. Some breeders will charge more, some less. You can also get a good chi through a rescue group or your local animal shelter.
Chihuahuas can cost 600$ to 900$! Expensive little dogs!
There are both long-haired and short-haired chihuahuas, so both.
You should watch out for that when they are 6 months and so on.
Chihuahuas are no longer a wild dog so the only time you will find them traveling in groups is when they're in a group with the dog walker.
Yes, Chihuahuas can get the flu.
