∙ 12y agoBecause they're often unpredictable. A large enough asteroid striking the earth, could throw up enough material into the atmosphere to shut out the sun for years. This would all-but end all life on this planet ! Even a smaller asteroid could cause thousands of deaths if it struck a heavily-populated area.
