Electromagnets' magnetism can be manipulated. Electromagnets can be magnetised and demagnetised by passing electric current. Therefore they are used in motors- which works when the coil is magnetised by passing an electric current. It is also used for cranes.

1. To lift very heavy objects in factories electromagnets are only used because there are no permanent or natural magnets that powerful.

2. Electromagnets are handy as well. As soon as the work is done you can turn it off by disconnecting the current.

What are some devices that use electromagnetism?

Electromagnets in scrapyards are used to carry metal around. Electromagnets are better than normal magnets because you can turn the current on and off.

Do all magnets have the same power?

No, some are more powerful than others, as there are your normal refrigerator magnets that hold a few sheets of paper and there are super electromagnets that can hold cars.

What do electromagnets attract?

Unlike normal magnets, electromagnets attract just someof the alloys that contain iron, such as steel and iron, but not all of them. Electromagnets do not attract aluminium, copper, titanium, brass, bronze, tin, nickel, platinum, gold, silver, lead or pewter.Contrary to some opinions, electromagnets cannot attract cardboard.See also the related question.

NO,THEY ARE NOT......only uses a normal magnet at the door.

Where are electromagnets used in industry?

An electromagnet is used in an electrical engine, but an electrical engine contains normal magnets too.

If you break a magnet in half are 4 poles created like 2 normal magnets?

yes. Four poles are created like two normal magnets. if we further divide the 2 new magnets, we get 4 new magnets each with its own north pole and south pole.

Are electromagnets the same thing as magnets?

Yes. (Note: electromagnet and magnet) The only difference is that an electromagnet is when get a hunk of metal and flow electricity through it getting an electrically produced magnetic field and a normal magnet is a rock (magnetite) that comes with this magnetic field. So, yes. They are just made differently.

How many magnets are in a normal sized neocube?

There are 216 magnetic spheres that make up the Neocube, BuckyBall, Or Zen Magnets.

Can rusty magnets attract other magnets like regular magnets and can they Repel also?

Well, rusty magnets do not work as well as a normal magnet. But they can work. And yes try can repel but if you use rusty magnets, it won't work as well. I hope this helped! :)

Which type of wires do you use for generating electricity from magnets?

the normal copper or aluminum wires.
