Why are floppy disks much less popular as a portable storage system and what replaced them?

They have been significantly succeded by smaller, more rigid forms of data storage media with greater protection and storage capacity.

Floppy disks do not reliably sustain its data for a long period of time and by today's standards just as with zip disks the amount of data they can hold is a small amount.

∙ 11y agoFloppy discs were expensive and had very little sapce to store anything on them. You could not even put one music file, because it would be too big a file size. Then, they made the compact disc ( CD ) which holds up to 80 MB worth of memory ( about 20 songs ). They are cheaper. Now we have flash drives

∙ 11y agoMost new computers do not have floppy drives.
3 1\2 inch floppies only hold about 1.44 Megabytes of data, while flash drives hold several thousand times more than that. Also, flash drives have higher reading and writing speeds.
