Why is drugs not illegal?

Illegal drugs are so common in part because they are illegal. People generally want what they can't have, with the exception of a few. However, that's only part of the story. There's also a lot of peer pressure, and there is a lot of stress in the world. So people decide to try them because others insist or because they believe that drugs might be the answer to their troubles.

Drugs that are deemed illegal are not produced by the drug companies that produce legal drugs. That is to say drugs that are sold over the counter or filled and sold by prescription by a pharmacy. As such, there are limitations to what people can obtain and the quantity that they can receive from the pharmacy in a certain amount of time. Since these restrictions exist, it can leave different people without the drugs they either wish to have or have a need for and thus there is a current demand for illegal drugs. As long as their is a demand for something, people will continue to find a way to produce and sell it. An example is during the 1920's and into the early 1930's where alchohol was illegal to have, transport or consume, it was still widely produced.
