Felsic magma is very viscous, meaning it resists flowing. Because of this it is difficult for it to be channeled through the crust to erupt from a volcano, so instead it usually cools underground.

Hence, volcanic rock that pushed up underground, and had a rounded top was named after Pluto. Therefore, it is referred to as plutonic rock.

A different process was named after the Greek God Neptune, and items meeting this requirement are called neptunic. And so on.
