∙ 11y agoBelieve it or not, the theater actually makes very little money off the movie itself. Borrowing movies from the studios is very expensive, and makes little profit for the theater, so almost all their income comes from sales of snacks such as popcorn and soda. They have to have some way to pay their employes and electric bills, so that is why it's so expensive.
The longer a film plays at a theater, the more the theater makes off each ticket sold.
