Because we don't have enough of our own food for it to be popular besides one of the most popular foods in America is American Pizza and Hamburgers because they adapt to the local culture easily.

Probably due to integration of different cultures. With increased Immigration, came people from many different countries. They brought their own cuisine and recipes with them - encouraging people outside their culture to try it.
