Working of oldham's coupling?

An Oldham coupling is a flexible shaft coupling that consists of two hubs (each with a fin or tenon) and one midsection (with grooves that fit those fins, one on each side of the midsection, and perpendicular to one another). The Oldham coupling is an outstanding design for torque transmission between two shafts which might be slightly misaligned. The coupling accommodates this misalignment, while maintaining homokinetic motion (the two shafts rotate at the same speed at all times), and while exerting only very small reactive forces (resistance to accommodation of the misalignment, exhibited as sideward forces on the shafts). More information on Oldham couplings can be found at www.oepcouplings.com.

What Two things that the mine winch system must do for people?

Think about people write down at least two things that the mine winch system must do for people how should it help the mine workers? What should it do, or not do, for the local people who live near the mine

What are helicle gears?

helical gears offer a refinement over spur gears. The leading edges of the teeth are not parallel to the axis of rotation, but are set at an angle. Since the gear is curved, this angling causes the tooth shape to be a segment of a helix. The angled teeth engage more gradually than do spur gear teeth. This causes helical gears to run more smoothly and quietly than spur gears. Helical gears can be meshed in a parallel or crossed orientation. The former refers to when the shafts are parallel to each other; this is the most common orientation. In the latter, the shafts are non-parallel. For a crossed configuration the gears must have the same pressure angle and normal pitch, however the helix angle and handedness can be different. The relationship between the two shafts is actually defined by the helix angle(s) of the two shafts and the handedness, as defined: : : Where β is the helix angle for the gear. The crossed configuration is less mechanically sound because there is only a point contact between the gears, whereas in the parallel configuration there is a line contact. Quite commonly helical gears are used with the helix angle of one having the negative of the helix angle of the other; such a pair might also be referred to as having a right-handed helix and a left-handed helix of equal angles. The two equal but opposite angles add to zero: the angle between shafts is zero -- that is, the shafts are parallel. Where the sum or the difference (as described in the equations above) is not zero the shafts are crossed. For shafts crossed at right angles the helix angles are of the same hand because they must add to 90 degrees.

Applications of oldhams coupling?

It is used to transfer torque between two parallel but not collinear shafts. Depending upon the matterial of the 3 discs , oldham coupling can be used in many devices. They can easily be used in servo mechanisms.

What are two types of mining?

The two types of mining are Open-cast mining and Underground mining. Underground mining is further divided in to Adit mining and Shaft mining.

What was the colliery disaster?

The Felling mine disaster occurred when firedamp ignited and the resulting coal dust explosion sent a devastating blast throughout the mine and up its two mine shafts, the John pit and the William pit, named after the Brandling brothers who owned the colliery.

Why are there weird looking caves in this game called Minecraft that is four by two then going out What are those weird caves?

mine shafts.

A spark can cause coal dust in a mine to explode and yet not cause an explosion with charcoal in a barbecue grill?

Yes. * A) Coal is not charcoal * B) Charcoal is not dust * C) The coal mine has a different atmosphere to the grill So, with all those differences, why would we expect the two situations to produce the same results?

What are the two methods used to mine coal out of the ground so that you can use it to make electricity?

I forgot!! but i did study this in grade 5

What are two cities where coal mines are located?

While there are hundreds of such cities around the world, I'll mention 2 in the US. First, Midlothian VA (near Richmond VA), since that was the location of the FIRST coal mine in the US. Second- Beckley, WV- which has mines, but also is home to the US Mine Academy. Where I will be in school the next two days for Mine Blasting Safety.

What are two ways to mine coal?

Coal is mined by two methods: surface or 'opencast' mining or underground or 'deep' mining. The choice of mining method largely depends on the geology of the coal deposit. Underground mining currently accounts for a bigger share of world coal production than opencast; although in several important coal producing countries surface mining is more common.

World biggest coal mine?

The world's largest coal mine currently (based on production) is the Black Thunder Mine in Northeast Wyoming. Black Thunder Mine is owned by Thunder Basin Coal Company, which is a subsidiary of Arch Coal Western Resources. 2009 Production was 73.6 million short tons at the Black Thunder Facility, down from 86 million in 2008. In late 2009, Thunder Basin Coal Company purchased the adjoining Jacobs Ranch Mine from Rio Tinto Energy America, and combined the two facilities. Jacobs Ranch Mine produced 38.7 million short tons in 2009, and the projected tonnage for 2010 for the new combined Black Thunder Mine is 120 million short tons. The second largest coal mine in the world is the neighboring North Antelope Rochelle Mine, owned by Powder River Coal Company, which in 2009 produced 98.6 million short tons. Projected production for 2010 for NARM is 100 million short tons. Northeastern Wyoming produces more coal than any other region in the world.

How is coal mined from the earth?

The two commonest methods are deep pit mining or open cast mining. With deep=pit mining, shafts are dug vertically downwards, then tunnels excavated horizontally to extract the coal. With open-cast mining, the top-soil is simply scraped away, using large excavators, and the coal is transported away tpo be processed.

What are some popular coal mines?

The nine largest coal-producing mines in the U.S. are located in Wyoming. The biggest two are, by a fair margin, the North Antelope Rochelle Mine, operated by Powder River Coal LLC, and Black Thunder, operated by Thunder Basin Coal Company LLC.

What are two types of coal mining?

Surface mining is used to produce most of the coal because it is less expensive than underground mining. Surface mining can be used when the coal is buried less than 200 feet underground. In surface mining, giant machines remove the top soil and layers of rock known as "overburden" to expose the coal seam. Once the mining is finished, the dirt and rock are returned to the pit, the topsoil is replaced, and the area is replanted.Underground mining, sometimes called deep mining, is used when the coal is buried several hundred feet below the surface. Some underground mines are 1,000 feet deep. To remove coal in these underground mines, miners ride elevators down deep mine shafts where they run machines that dig out the coal.

Coal and oil - or at least those are the two they always went on about at school.
