Because babies are more prone to developing complications from some of the diseases we vaccinate against. That's why children need to be immunized early in life - so they are protected as early as possible.

∙ 10y agoActually, every childhood vaccine I normally see requires more than one doses: Heb B - 3, Hib - 4, IPV - 4, PCV - 4, MMR - 2, Var - 2, Hep A - 2, and DTaP - 5. Children get above vaccines up to around 5 year-old.
Your immune system works base on exposure. The more you are exposed to an antigen (foreign particles), the more likely it will learn to make antibodies against those antigens. Since the vaccines are often only composed of parts or weakened bacteria or virus, they may not induce an immune response as strong as 'natural' infections.

∙ 9y agoChildren have less margins than adults if they get sick, so they need the protection of vaccines more than adults. Also, some vaccines don't wear off, so it makes sense to get them on board as soon as possible.

There are many different strains of influenza. This is why you get a flu shot (or could) every year. So making a required vaccine would only protect the child for that one year.

Yes, you can and you should get a flu shot every year if you are on MTX. My Rheumatologist did suggest not to get the shot the day of or first couple of days after taking your MTX dose (if you take it once a week). You should of course discuss this with your doctor.
